🧅 Amish Onion Fritters
Ingredients:
2 large onions, thinly sliced
¾ cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
¾ cup milk
Oil, for frying (vegetable or canola)
Instructions:
Prepare the batter:
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
Gradually whisk in milk until you have a smooth batter.
Add onions:
Stir in the sliced onions, coating them well with the batter.
Heat oil:
In a large skillet, pour enough oil to cover the bottom (about ¼ inch deep). Heat over medium heat until shimmering.
Fry fritters:
Drop spoonfuls of the onion mixture into the hot oil, flattening slightly.
Fry 2–3 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.
Drain & serve:
Remove fritters and place them on paper towels to drain. Serve warm.
💡 Tips:
Serve with ranch dressing, sour cream, or a spicy aioli dip.
For extra crispiness, let the batter sit for 5–10 minutes before frying.
These taste great alongside BBQ, burgers, or grilled chicken!
